2011 - 2012
Student
Handbook
ATTENDANCE
Re-admittance to class: C. K. Price students need to bring a signed note from parent, guardian, or physician when they return to school. A telephone call from the parent/guardian or physician will suffice in emergency cases.
a. If you have been ill, your note must state the nature of the illness and the dates you were out of school and have a valid signature. If your absence is for any reason other than illness or medical/dental appointment, the note should state the exact reason for the absence. A call to the attendance clerk will suffice.
b. When you arrive at school after being absent or you are tardy, please report directly to the office, before school begins, for an admittance slip to class. If the note or phone call is not received within three (3) school days upon their return, each day of absence will be counted as an unexcused absence. Students with unexcused absences cannot make up the assignments for credit but may make up the knowledge upon parent request.
d. P. E. exemption: If you have been ill and need to be excused from P. E. activities for a day or two, bring a note either from home or a doctor explaining your illness or injury. Your teacher will tell you the dressing out rules, shower rules, towel rules, etc., and what to do if you do not participate. A doctor's note is required for more than three days of non participation.
e. Tardiness: If you are tardy, teachers will send you to the office to get an admittance slip that you will present to your teacher. If your bus arrives late, report to the office and you will be given an excused tardy. The excused tardy criteria will meet the same standards as those set forth by the state for excused absences. If your tardy is not excused, you will be given lunch detention. On the third offense, the discipline matrix will be followed in addition to the lunch detention.
A student must attend every period during the school day in order to participate in an extra-curricular activity unless they have a physician's note verifying an appointment or a parent's note is required if they attended a funeral that day. If the activity is on a weekend, the rule refers to the last school day before the weekend.
Perfect attendance is defined by being in school all day or attending official school business off campus during school hours and having no tardies. Any student placed on suspension will not be considered for perfect attendance. Awards will be distributed at the end of the school year.
Students are required by law to attend school regularly (California Education Code Section 48200. Students who attend school on a regular basis tend to do better in school than those who don't. Even if students are out for valid reasons as set forth in Ca. Ed. Code (Section 48205) and Title V (Section 420) (i.e., illness, doctor appointments, family funerals etc.), they are missing valuable information that cannot always be obtained through the homework process. We, along with the student and parent, must ensure that all efforts are made to achieve perfect attendance. When students have three unexcused absences or when the student's parent excused absences reach 10 (ten), notification will be sent to the parent. If this attendance pattern does not improve, students may be referred to the Attendance Improvement Program requesting their assistance.
The AIP may take any of the following actions:
a. Place the parents on a formal district attendance contract.
b. Refer the matter to the District Attorney's office for adjudication.
Students, do not arrive at school before 7:20 am. There is no supervision for early student arrivals. By law, students cannot be allowed to roam the school unless proper supervision is employed. When you arrive at school after 7:20 am, please go to the cafeteria/gym.
C. K. Price Middle School is a CLOSED CAMPUS. Students are not allowed to leave unless they have a note or permission from a parent/guardian. Students are allowed to go home for lunch ONLY if they are checked out by a parent/guardian. Once students are on campus in the morning, or on the bus, they are not allowed to leave without authorization. Before leaving, students MUST BE SIGNED OUT BY PARENT/GUARDIAN in the office. All students must talk with an adult office staff member before leaving campus for ANY reason. Upon return, they must sign back in! IF A STUDENT LEAVES CAMPUS WITHOUT CHECKING OUT WITH ADULT OFFICE PERSONNEL THEY WILL BE REGARDED AS TRUANT AND ASSIGNED THE APPROPRIATE CONSEQUENCE.
Students will only be released to individuals whose names are properly placed on the emergency card.
Students are asked not to loiter in the corridors or on campus after school has been dismissed. Start for home as quickly as possible. If you are riding a bus, wait in the bus area, not in the halls or in front of the school. If you are attending an after school program, you must be signed up each day and be in the proper area. Students need to be picked up from school by 3:15 in front of the school.
Should your address or telephone number change, please report it to the office right away.
Students are expected to complete all homework assignments and are responsible to know and understand the content, process, and due date of the assignments.
i. One-day absences will require students asking their teachers for homework.
ii. Parents requesting homework by 9:30 a.m. after the second day of absence will be responsible for seeing that the work is picked up after 3:30 and before 4:00 pm.
iii. School work missed while you are absent is to be made up for credit for excused absences only.
iv. Teachers will complete homework requests ONLY after the second day of absence.
v. It is your responsibility to ask about missed work.
Those students missing more than 10 consecutive days without a valid reason or pre-absence administration conference will be marked unexcused. If requested, they will receive the assignments for knowledge only, not grades or credit.
Every accident in the school building, on the grounds, at a practice session, or at any athletic event sponsored by the school must be reported immediately to the person in charge and to the office. The school does not carry accident insurance for any student, but it does make available a voluntary insurance plan paid by the parent/guardian.
We encourage students to participate in school-related activities. You will discover there are a variety of school activities in which you can participate: dances, play days, movies, assemblies, and girl's and boy's sports. These school activities do not come automatically; they must be earned. General student behavior will determine most of the school activities. It is the student's responsibility to check the RESTRICTED ACTIVITIES LIST before the school function commences. Social probation/suspension from the above activities will be applied to those students who continue to misbehave at school according to the discipline policy.
A daily bulletin will be read each morning during first period so that students will know of the various activities scheduled. It is important that students listen carefully to the bulletin. The bulletin is posted daily in the office window and will be available to view online at www.orlandusd.net/ckprice. Parents may receive the daily bulletin in their personal email. Just give us your email address.
C. K. Price Middle School offers several clubs in which students can become members. In order to participate in club activities, students must maintain a 2.0 grade point average and excellent citizenship. Excessive referrals or any suspension may be grounds for exclusion from club participation.
Breakfast is available for 60¢ from 7:30 am to 8:25 am each morning. You can buy your lunch in the cafeteria for $1.25 a day. Just a carton of milk is available for 35¢. Reduced breakfast is 30¢ and reduced lunch is 40¢. All prices are subject to change at any time. All snack bar purchases are cash only for all students. Accounts for meals can be opened in the cafeteria between 7:30 am and 8:25 am. Applications for free or reduced meals will be sent home during the first week of school. An application should be on file at the school the student is attending. Parents of a newly arrived student must fill out the application before leaving school the day of registration. Applications are due back in the office as soon as possible, the deadline is September 15th. Your child's application must be processed and approved before they can receive their free or reduced lunches. Each student is allowed to charge the cost of a cafeteria meal two times before paying. After two charges, a sack lunch is provided to the student per board policy until all charges are paid. The meal cost will be charged to the student after two charges, the student will be provided with a printout of money owed on a daily basis so the parent may be made aware of the amount owed. Parents will be billed for every charged meal served and not paid for at the end of each calendar month. Meals are to be paid for in the cafeteria anytime between 7:00 a.m. and 2:30 p.m.
Students are expected to line up quietly in their designated class line (based on the student's 5th period class) and enter the cafeteria in single file; cutting in line is not permitted. All students should use good taste and manners in the cafeteria and are expected to be courteous to the cafeteria workers. Loud talking and yelling is disruptive and inappropriate; normal conversation is permissible but should be limited to your immediate area. All food shall be eaten in the designated areas. Food should never be thrown at school. Students are expected to throw away their trash and/or mess. Food or drink must stay within the red lines outside of the cafeteria building. Students are asked to stay out of the Room 1-6 hallway, the main hallway, and behind the sixth grade wing during the lunch period.
We all would like to attend a well maintained campus. Pupils are asked to use the sidewalks when going to and from classes, when arriving at school, and when leaving school. This does not mean that you cannot walk or play on the grass at other times. The lawn is for your comfort and enjoyment as well as for beauty. Worn paths do not add to the beauty.
Students are urged to take good care of and provide for the safekeeping of their own valuable property such as watches, money, etc. For your own good you should not bring large amounts of money to school. Should it be necessary for you to do this, we advise that you leave the money in the office for safekeeping while you are at school. If you bring valuable property to school, it may be lost or taken by someone and C. K. Price Middle School will not be responsible.
Should you become ill or get injured while at school, report it to your teacher immediately. The teacher will give you instructions on what to do. Do not leave the school campus! If no teacher is available, go to the office for help or assistance. If you cannot go, send someone. The school does not have a full-time health nurse. Students who become ill during the school day must report to the office where they will be sent home after their parent/guardian has been contacted. Do not leave the school without notifying the office and following the procedure for leaving campus. If illness occurs while a student is at home during the lunch period, a parent/guardian should phone the school to inform the office that the student will not be returning that day.
Our student body will be given the opportunity to attend field trips throughout the year to enhance the school experience. Some of these trips are educational in nature, some are for reward purposes. A student's eligibility to participate in these field trips will be based on their academic and/or behavioral record and will be reviewed by the staff and administration.
Letter grades are received by each student on report cards that are sent out every nine weeks.
A Indicates superior or outstanding work
B Indicates above average work
C Indicates average work
D Indicates work barely passing or merely sustained effort
F Indicates little or no acceptable work or effort
I Incomplete -- Indication that the student must make up unfinished work required by the teacher before a
grade is issued. Generally incompletes will be issued to students failing to do regular assignments they missed
because of excused absences (illness only). Quarter incompletes must be made up within six weeks after
grades are issued. Otherwise, loss of all units will result and an "F" grade in the class will be recorded.
If a student is doing unacceptable work or failing in a subject, a progress report will be sent to the parents before report cards are issued. It is the joint responsibility of the student and parent to see that the teacher is contacted for specific suggestions to improve the situation. Following this procedure will usually avoid complete failure of the subject.
Sixth, seventh, and eighth grade honor roll at C.K. Price Middle School is based on a grade point average of 3.0 or better for all subjects in regular or special education classes. Membership is computed on a semester basis. Criteria for computing grade point average is
A=4 points, B=3 points, C=2 points, D=1 point, F=0 points.
3.0 - 3.49 Honor Roll
3.5 - 3.79 Principal's List
3.8 - 4.0 Super List
ONLINE PARENT ACCESS
At our annual Back to School Night in August, parents will be given information regarding online parent access to their student's attendance, grades, and discipline. Teachers will update student assignments every Tuesday.
If it becomes necessary for you to take medications during school time, you must follow the proper procedure. You need to get a form from the office that your doctor is required to sign giving the school permission to administer the medication. The medication needs to be given to office personnel and will be distributed to you by them at the needed time. It is your responsibility to remember to come to the office to receive your medication.
As an alternative educational program, Independent Study provides a system for students who, for one reason or another, have a difficult time adjusting to the regular school environment. The school district maintains an independent study program for grades K - 12. This program is provided primarily for those students who are physically or emotionally impaired and cannot make it to school on a regular basis.
Any articles found at C. K. Price Middle School should be turned in to the office as soon as possible. If you have lost an identifiable item, check with the office. Most articles of clothing are stored in the lost and found in the custodian's room. You should check with them for clothing. Found books will be sent to the library or returned to the teacher. All items are disposed of at the end of the school year.
MEDIA CENTER
The media center has encyclopedias that may be checked out for one day at a time. Novels, biographies, non-fiction books, and reference books are available for your use. A television is located in the media center for special showings of movies. The media center also has filmstrips, paperbacks, and magazines. Books may be checked out for a period of two weeks and may be renewed subject to recall. If books are overdue, participation in activities may be limited and/or report cards will be held until the books are returned or paid for the loss.
Parents are always welcome to visit our school. C. K. Price Middle School does not schedule regular conference periods with parents. If parents wish a conference with teachers, they should call or write and request an appointment. All visitors must check in at the office when entering campus. ALL non C.K. Price personnel must check in through the office.
Education Code (Section 48904), Liability of Parent or Guardian for Pupil Willful Misconduct:
a. Any school district or private school whose real or personal property has been willfully cut, defaced or otherwise injured, or whose property is loaned to a pupil and willfully not returned upon demand of an employee of the district or private school authorized to make the demand may, after affording the pupil his or her due process rights, withhold the grades, diploma, and transcripts of the pupil responsible for the damage until the pupil or the pupil's parent or guardian has paid for the damages.
b. The school district or private school shall notify the parent or guardian of the pupil in writing of the pupil's alleged misconduct; pursuant to this subdivision. When the minor and parent are unable to pay for the damages, or to return the property, the school district or private school shall provide a program of voluntary work for the minor in lieu of the payment of monetary damages. Upon completion of the voluntary work, the grades, diploma and transcripts of the pupil shall be released.
You will notice on your schedule that you have four minutes between each class. This time is allowed so you may get a drink or go to the restroom. This does not sound like much time, but after several years of experience, we have found that this is plenty of time for those things mentioned above. You will have to learn how to spend the time between each period so you can get to class on time. If you are late to a class, you are marked tardy and will receive the appropriate consequence.
Rallies and assemblies are held during school time and are considered part of the educational experience. Students are required to attend unless excused by an administrator. Good behavior is expected and will earn praise. Talking, whistling, or making disturbances during a presentation will not be tolerated and could result in the entire school being denied programs. Students may be removed from these activities for inappropriate behavior and given consequences.
The C. K. Price Middle School students have always kept neat and clean restrooms. Loitering in and around the restrooms is not allowed. Please do not mark on the walls. You will be held responsible and consequences will be handed out if you cause any damage to our restrooms.
Keep in mind that you are monetarily responsible for all schoolbooks, supplies, and other equipment that you are issued. Lost or damaged books must be paid for. Defacing desks, walls, etc., is against the school rules. See promotion guidelines concerning book/supply fees.
Skateboards/skates/scooters are strictly forbidden on the campus at any time. They represent a hazard to the rider and others. Your board/skates/scooter may be confiscated by C.K. Price staff and arrangements for pick up will be made with the parent/guardian. Special arrangements for storage ahead of time may be arranged with the administration.
Student body cards will be on sale after fall pictures have been returned. The daily bulletin will announce to students when the cards will be on sale. The Student Council prior to the initial sale shall establish the price of the student body card. All candidates for a student body office must have a valid card, and all student body office holders must possess a valid card. There are many advantages to owning a student body card throughout the year:
a. reduced admission to all away athletic events;
b. free admission to all home athletic events;
c. reduced admission to school dances;
d. reduced price on yearbook;
f. some theaters and stores give reduced prices to student body card holders;
e. Other privileges as determined by Student Council.
Use of the office telephone by students is on an emergency basis. Students may not use the office telephone unless the student is ill and needs to call home or a staff member verifying an emergency sends the student to the office with a note.
CK Price Progressive Discipline Plan 2011-12
Maintaining a positive and safe place to learn is a focus for C.K Price Middle School. We want students to be rewarded for good behavior, and we must enforce consequences for those behaviors that disrupt the learning and safety of all students, staff members and our school.

|
C.K. Price Middle School will also use a merit system which gives students the opportunity to experience success. Students begin each semester with 50 merits. Students who show good school behavior and do not violate the school rules will maintain their 50 merits. Students with at least 45 merits will be recognized at the end of each quarter for their excellent citizenship. Students who receive disciplinary referrals will have merits taken away from them and face the loss of privilege outlined below. Merits will return to 50 at the end of each semester.

In addition, any student who dips below 29 merits with less than 3 weeks left in the semester will be put on probation for the following semester. Merits will be reset at 50 when probation is over.
Merits Activities
45-50 All extracurricular activities are available and students with 45-50 merits will be recognized quarterly
40-44 All extracurricular activities are available to the students, but there will be no participation in the quarterly reward
30-39 Not allowed to participate in extracurricular activities for the remainder of the semester and lose their Totally Tiger pass
20-29 Student will be put on a behavioral contract and will not be allowed to participate in extracurricular activities for the remainder of the semester
0-19 Student will be placed in an alternative program or be up for expulsion and will not be allowed to participate in extracurricular activities for the remainder of the semester
Extracurricular activities include but are not limited to: dances, non-educational field trips, participating in athletics, being a teacher/office aide, movie nights, participating in a school club, access to the gym, assemblies, and the 8th Grade Promotion Ceremony.
Totally Tiger Passes: Totally Tiger Passes will be handed out at the semester based on GPA. The color of the pass will depend upon your student's GPA. On the back of the card it will list privileges the student has earned. As the privileges are used, they will be hole-punched. Students can lose their passes if they drop below 30 merits. We are promoting good grades and behavior.
Bus Transportation: In order to ensure the safety of all students riding the bus, any student who is violating school policies while waiting for the bus or while riding the bas at anytime may lose their bus privileges in addition to the corresponding consequence from the discipline matrix. The consequence will depend upon the nature and frequency of the behavior.
GUM: Gum is not allowed at school at any time. Students caught with gum will be given lunch detention. On the third offense, students will lose merits and have an after-school detention.
Tardies- Students who are tardy will be given lunch detention. On the third offense, students will lose merits and
have an after-school detention as well.
Caffeinated Drinks- Caffeinated drinks/sprays are not allowed on campus at any time. Students do not need an extra burst of caffeine. The caffeinated item will be taken away. Unopened items can be picked up by a parent/guardian after school. The item must be picked up within 48 hours or it will be discarded.
Cell Phones: The use of cell phones is not allowed on campus from 8:20 am until 2:57pm, essentially during school hours. Cell phones must be kept in backpacks during school hours. They must be in the off position and can only be used before or after school. Students who need the use of a phone during the school day may use the phone in the office or a teacher's room. Students who do not abide by this rule will have their phone confiscated and arrangements must be made with the parent/guardian to recover. The cell phone will not be released to the student. A referral will be issued to the student when their cell phone is confiscated.
Portable Music Devices and Electronics: Portable music devices and electronics ARE NOT ALLOWED AT ALL. If a portable music device or any other electronics, including ear phones, are found out and/or in use during school hours, the item will be confiscated and arrangements with a parent will be made to recover. The items will not be released to the student. Referrals will be issued for student using electronic devices during the school hours.
Substitutes: Substitute teachers are essential, and we need to support them during their time at our school. One way to support them is to have a process, no matter what room they are in, for working with students who are disruptive. If a student misbehaves with a substitute, the substitute can choose from these two options:
Option A- After a warning, send the student to the room listed on their sub plans and the receiving teacher will decide if the student warrants just a time out in their room or to write the student up on a referral
Option B- 1st - Give a warning, 2nd - change the student's seat, 3rd - send the student to the office with a referral. Referrals from a sub will have higher consequences
Referrals are designed to provide teachers and other staff with a mechanism to deal with classroom and school-wide rules. Referrals are filled out by a staff member once they have exhausted classroom strategies (classroom -detentions, sentences, apology letter, work detail, council with students, a time-out, parents contacted, etc.) to help change student behavior.
Book Fines: Students who owe fines for books or other school materials will be put on the "No Activities" list until they are paid in full.
BICYCLING CODE
Riding your bike to school is permissible. Remember to observe all rules of traffic safety in coming to school and going home. You should ride your bike on the shoulder of the road, going the same way as automobile traffic. You should not ride out in the road. Do not ride in the area in front of school while buses are loading and unloading. Double bike riding is not permitted. It is a violation of the bicycle vehicle law, as well as our school rule. You are not to ride double on the way to or from school. Violations may result in your bike privileges being taken away. It is California state law that students must wear a helmet while riding a bicycle.
Park your bike in the area provided for them. They should be placed neatly and carefully in the bike stands and should not be left lying around anywhere. If your bike cannot go in the stand, or if there is no room left, park your bike south of the stands in an orderly fashion. A LOCK IS REQUIRED. Once your bike is parked, it will stay there until you leave for the day. Please walk your bike while on school grounds, halls, or walkways at any time. Students are not to loiter in the bike parking area.
For your safety in the afternoon when leaving school, you are to exit at the northwest gate by the library. As you exit the school grounds, turn your bike west (left). Do not turn right and ride in front of the school where buses are loading and unloading. The increased vehicle and pedestrian traffic after school makes that area extremely dangerous.
DEADLY WEAPONS / DANGEROUS OBJECTS / EXPLOSIVES
The possession or brandishing a deadly or dangerous weapon on school grounds, coming to and from school will result in an automatic suspension and possible expulsion. May include, but not limited to, guns, fireworks/firecrackers, fire and smoke bombs, bomb threats, billy clubs, blackjacks, blowguns, pellet guns, BB guns, knives, dirk, dagger, nunchuks, brass knuckles, sand club, slingshots, switchblades, etc., and "look alikes":
DRUGS / ALCOHOL
The possession and/or use of drugs and alcohol are strictly prohibited. Any case of this will result in an automatic suspension and possible expulsion. This includes beer, liquors, marijuana, cocaine, heroin, amphetamines, inhalants, LSD, DMT, STP, barbiturates, or even "look-alikes", and includes possession of drug paraphernalia on person, in locker or automobile (on campus or at activities).
***Please be aware that random drug searches by a K-9 team will be done throughout the year in classrooms at C. K. Price Middle School.
Students are not permitted in the halls except during passing period or immediately before school. Hall passes are required. Students will be permitted in the halls during the lunch period during bad weather only. For the safety of our students and staff, we ask all students to walk while proceeding in all hallways of our school site. A good rule of thumb is if you are walking on a hard surface (cement, pavement), you should be walking.
"HANDS-OFF" POLICY
For the safety of all of our students, C.K. Price has a "hands-off" policy. Students shall not hit, kick, wrestle, tackle, slap or participate in horseplay.
SEXUAL HARASSMENT
The following is the District's policy prohibiting sexual harassment as it relates to students (E.C. 212.6(g)).
· The Governing Board prohibits the unlawful sexual harassment of any student by any employee, student, or other person in or from the district.
· Teachers shall discuss this policy with their students in age-appropriate ways and should assure them that they need not endure any form of sexual harassment.
· Any student who engages in the sexual harassment of anyone in or from the district may be subject to disciplinary action up to and including expulsion. Any employee who permits or engages in sexual harassment may be subject to disciplinary action up to and including dismissal.
· The Board expects students or staff to immediately report incidents of sexual harassment to the principal or designee or to another district administrator.
· Any student who feels that he/she is being harassed should immediately contact the principal or designee at his/her school. If a situation involving sexual harassment is not promptly remedied by the principal or designee, a complaint of harassment can be filed in accordance with AR 1312.1 - Complaints Concerning School Personnel or AR 1312.3 - Uniform Complaint Procedures. The principal or designee shall determine which procedure is appropriate.
· The district prohibits retaliatory behavior against any complainant or any participant in the complaint process. Each complaint of sexual harassment shall be promptly investigated in a way that respects the privacy of all parties concerned.

C.K. Price Athletics
Student Athlete Policies
C.K. Price Middle School encourages students to participate in athletics. This is an inter-scholastic program that is an integral part of the total education system. Our athletic program supports the highest development level of all participants and promotes high standards of ethics, sportsmanship, and personal conduct by encouraging student athletes, coaches, staff, administration, and community to commit to these high standards. Athletics will provide students the opportunity to develop school pride and spirit, and will teach them the value of teamwork through their involvement.
Participation in the athletic program is considered a privilege. Students will earn this privilege through satisfactory performances in both academics and citizenship. To be eligible to participate in any sport students must meet the academic and behavioral requirements and have parental consent.
1. Eligibility
Eligibility to participate in C.K. Price athletics is based on the following:
a. Enrollment
§ Students must be enrolled at C.K. Price
§ Students enrolled in the Off-Campus programs are not eligible to participate in C.K. Price athletics.
b. Truancy
§ Students who are classified as a "habitual truant" under California Ed. Code EC section 48260 may not participate in athletics.
c. Behavior
§ Coaches establish expectations for behavior in each sport.
§ Coaches have the discretion to remove athletes from the team due to behavior problems.
§ Students who do not meet the minimum behavior requirements set forth by the school discipline policy will be removed from the team (See Discipline Policy).
2. Academic Eligibility
Student-athletes must meet the following minimum academic standards:
§ At least a 2.0 grade point average
§ No F's in any class
3. Academic Probation
Student-athletes may be subject to grade checks before tryouts and throughout the season. If a student has an F on a grade check or falls below a 2.0 GPA, the following will occur:
a. The student-athlete will be placed on Academic Probation for two weeks.
§ Student will be eligible to practice with the team but will not participate in "home" competitions or travel to any "away" competitions.
§ When a student on Academic Probation raises a grade of F to passing and/or improves to a GPA over a 2.0, they will be removed from Academic Probation and return to full eligibility in team events and competitions.
§ If a student fails to improve a grade of F or maintain a 2.0 GPA after two weeks of Academic Probation, the student will be removed from the team.
§ If a student is removed from the team they will not regain eligible status until the next quarter's grades are available.
b. Academic Probation is available once for each student athlete per season.
C.K. Price Middle School DANCE/ ACTIVITY NIGHTS Information & Rules
The dances at C.K. Price Middle School are for C.K. students only. No guests are allowed. Students need to be off campus until the dance or activity starts. They may not hang out in the halls or out in front of the school.
1. We will not allow a student into the dance 30 minutes after the dance or activity starts. Although walking to the event is permitted, we encourage parents to drop their students off rather than allow them to walk.
2. Students should have rides planned prior to the dance. Students should plan to be picked up within ten minutes after the scheduled end time. Students picked up more than 15 minutes after the end time will not be allowed to attend the next activity. A telephone is available in case of emergency.
3. When students arrive at the dance/activity, they must enter and stay inside until the activity is over or
until their parent comes to pick them up. If a student leaves early, the parent must come to the door and
get them.
4. Students are encouraged to dance (in socially appropriate ways), chat with friends, enjoy the music and
enjoy snacks from the concession stand. Students should not run, roughhouse, horseplay or dance inappropriately.
5. Students who have less than 39 merits for the semester may not attend school dances. Each semester, students start over with 50 merits.
6. There will be no promiscuous or provocative dancing. All violators will be given one warning. Repeat
offenders may be asked to call their parents for a ride home. They may be asked to not attend the next
school dance or may be banned from attending any dances at C. K. for the rest of the school year. School
dances are a place for students to socialize with their peers. The expectation is for everyone to have fun and be safe.
7. Horseplay, running and wrestling are not permitted. Violators will be warned or asked to sit out. If the
behavior continues, they may be asked to leave the dance or may be banned from the next dance even if it is scheduled for next school year.
8. Concession items, including food and drink, will not be allowed in the gym.
9. Students are expected to comply with directions of teachers and parent chaperones.
10. Students are expected to adhere to school dress codes. Students who are not following school policy will
be asked to call home and arrange a wardrobe change.
11. Students who do not adhere to the rules may not attend the next dance or will be banned from attending any dances at C.K. for the rest of the year.
12. All school rules apply.
13. We need at least four parent volunteers for each dance or after-school activity. If we cannot get enough parent help, we will be required to cancel the event. If you are willing to help us, please call 865-1225 or e-mail tsailsbery@orlandusd.net .
We hope your student will join us at one of the dances this year. We appreciate your cooperation with our dance expectations that keep the dances safe and fun!
